From Shadow to Self — Therapy for the Whole Person

For adults worldwide who are ready to stop managing symptoms and start understanding what's really driving them! Sessions in nature, indoors, or online.

About me

Something has brought you here. Maybe it's exhaustion. Maybe it's a pattern you can't seem to break — addiction, anxiety, the weight of what happened to you, a restlessness that feels bigger than any diagnosis. Maybe it's a quiet but persistent sense that there is more to you than this.

I'm Carmen Neagoe, a psychotherapeutic counsellor based in the heart of Liverpool. For over two decades I have worked with the parts of people that don't fit neatly into a symptom list — the shadow self, the unlived life, the soul searching for meaning and direction.

My work is rooted in Ecological Transactional Analysis, a powerful framework for understanding the hidden patterns, stories and scripts driving your behaviour. But I work integratively — drawing on transpersonal psychology, systemic thinking and humanistic philosophy — because no single map can hold the full territory of a human life.

I work with adults navigating addiction, ADHD, trauma and abuse recovery, identity and sexuality, and the deeper questions of purpose and spiritual meaning. These aren't separate issues to me — they are different expressions of the same fundamental human journey: the hero's journey into the unknown, towards a more whole and authentic self.

I offer sessions face to face at Oriel Chambers in Liverpool city centre, online, and outdoors in nature — because healing doesn't only happen between four walls.

If something in you is ready, I'm here.

Book your free 30 minute consultation today — no obligation, just a conversation.

My work is integrative: while Transactional Analysis is my main method, I also draw inspiration from transpersonal psychology, systemic work and humanistic philosophy. Thinking of figures lie Eric Berne, Carl Jung and Erik Erikson as guides behind the scenes - but my work is always tailored simply and directly to you.

My aim is to help you create new ways of thinking and being: to heal the pain or patterns from your past, bring awareness fully into the present, and give you the freedom to build the future and the life you truly want.

Therapy is an adventure - a journey of self-discovery. If you feel ready to understand yourself better and make real changes. I am here to walk the path with you.

I offer a free 30 min consultation so we can meet, talk about what you need, and see if we are a fit for each other.

Take the leap of faith and reach out today!

My focus

You Are Not a Passive Receiver — You Are the Author

Therapy, at its best, is not something that happens to you. It is something we create together.

From our very first session, I invite you into an active role in your own healing. We begin by contracting, a collaborative conversation about what you are hoping for, what needs to change, and what direction feels right. Most people arrive not quite knowing what they want, only that something needs to shift. That is perfectly normal. Part of our early work together is helping you find the words for what you are carrying, and begin to shape it into something we can work with.

This co-creative approach means you are never a subject being analysed. You are a partner in the process, bringing your experience, your wisdom and your inner world, while I bring the frameworks, the curiosity and the professional skills to help us make sense of it together.

I work primarily in what Transactional Analysis calls the two-person or one-and-a-half person position, meaning our relationship itself becomes part of the therapeutic work. What happens between us in the room, or outdoors, or online, is not separate from your healing. It is the healing. The quality of our connection, the safety of the space, the honesty of our dialogue, these are not just conditions for the work. They are the work.

Together we focus on:

Uncovering patterns

the behaviours, beliefs and reactions that keep repeating in your life

Understanding their roots

where they came from, why they made sense then, and why they are limiting you now

Contracting for change

setting clear, meaningful goals that are yours, not imposed

Building your inner resources

the strengths, capacities and ways of being that were always there, waiting to be reclaimed

Integrating the shadow

turning what has been hidden or rejected into a source of power and self-knowledge

This is not a process I do for you. It is a journey we take together, at your pace, in your direction, towards the life you actually want.

My approach

How We Work Together — Going to the Root

I don't work with symptoms. I work with people.

Symptoms — addiction, anxiety, ADHD, depression, relationship patterns — are not the problem. They are the message. They are the psyche's way of signalling that something deeper needs attention, understanding and integration.

My primary framework is Ecological Transactional Analysis — a rich, practical and profoundly human approach to understanding how we think, feel, relate and behave. Drawing on the work of Eric Berne, Carl Jung and Erik Erikson, it offers a map for understanding the hidden scripts, patterns and inner parts that shape our lives — often without our awareness.

I work integratively, weaving together:

Transactional Analysis

understanding your inner Parent, Adult and Child states, your life script, and the relational patterns keeping you stuck

Systemic thinking

seeing you in context, within your family, culture and history

Transpersonal and spiritual dimensions

honouring the parts of your experience that go beyond psychology into meaning, purpose and soul

Ecological and outdoor therapy

bringing the natural world into the healing process as an active, living presence

This is shadow work in the truest sense. We turn towards what has been hidden, rejected or split off, and in doing so, we begin to reclaim the energy, creativity and wholeness that was always there.

Our work together follows a clear but flexible process:

We begin by understanding, the root causes of your patterns, the stories you inherited, the ways your past is shaping your present. Then we work with integration, bringing the split parts of self into relationship with each other. And finally, transformation, not as a destination, but as an ongoing, living process of becoming more fully yourself.

This is the hero's journey. And it begins with a single decision to reach out.

I offer a free 30 minute consultation, a relaxed, no obligation conversation to see if we are the right fit for each other.

Outdoor Therapy

Therapy Beyond Four Walls — An Ecological Approach

Most people have heard of walk and talk therapy. What I offer goes deeper than that.

When we step outside together, we are not simply swapping the therapy room for fresh air. We are entering a different kind of space, one where nature becomes an active part of your healing, not just a backdrop to it.

I work with an ecological understanding of the self. That means you are never seen in isolation, from your history, your relationships, your body, or the natural world around you. The trees, the light, the seasons, the ground beneath your feet, these are not incidental. They mirror, provoke and invite parts of you that rarely surface indoors.

This is therapy for the whole person. A space where your human nature, instinctive, embodied, spiritual, is not managed or contained, but welcomed and expressed. Where the boundary between your inner world and the natural world begins to dissolve, and something true has room to emerge.

We meet in some of Liverpool's most beautiful green spaces — Sefton Park, Calderstones Park, Childwall Woodlands or Otterspool Promenade. We walk, or we sit. We follow what feels right on the day.

Everything discussed outdoors is fully confidential, exactly as in any therapy room.

Outdoor therapy may be right for you if:

  • You have tried indoor therapy and something felt missing

  • You feel more yourself in nature than anywhere else

  • You sense your healing needs to involve your whole body, not just your mind

  • You are drawn to a more holistic, spiritual approach to your growth

If you've ever felt more alive outside than in, that feeling is worth exploring.
